Hybrid Turkeys Builds Relationships with Federal Deputy Minister

10-Dec-2010

On December 1, 2010 Hybrid Turkeys was extremely privileged to host Mr. John Knubley, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, Ezio Di Emanuele, Regional Director of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada; and Alec Nicholls, Senior Policy Advisor to the Deputy Minister. Mr. Knubley is the right-hand man to Canada’s elected Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, The Honourable Gerry Ritz, and to receive a visit from such a busy man is indeed a feather in Hybrid’s cap.

The three gentlemen first stopped in to the Hybrid offices in Kitchener, Ontario, where they were treated to a turkey dinner with all the trimmings (cooked in the Hybrid kitchen by staff) before settling in for a presentation about the company and what we do.

Present to speak with the gentleman about various aspects of Hybrid’s business were Ron Slavnik, Managing Director; Scott Rowland, Manager of Operations; Dr. Helen Wojcinksi, Manager of Science and Technology; and Nico Buddiger, Research and Development Manager.

The presentation included a background on the make-up of the company and number of employees, the basics of turkey production and how Hybrid selects turkeys for our genetic pool. It then moved in to a more serious discussion on the high priority Hybrid places on biosecurity, and why it is so crucial to our business. Finally, the presentation ended with some key points on how the federal government can support Hybrid in protecting our flocks and our business.

The afternoon culminated with the three gentlemen taking a windshield tour of the Mapleglen Pedigree Complex in Ayr, Ontario, with Ron Slavnik and Scott Rowland.
