About the speaker
Owen Willems is a Geneticist with Hybrid Turkeys and is in charge of the breeding program. His education includes an Undergaduate Degree in Molecular Biology and Genetics as well as an M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Animal Breeding and Genetics; all from the University of Guelph (Ontario, Canada).
Since 2011 Owen has worked in various capacities within the turkey, swine and layer businesses of Hendrix Genetics. His key areas of expertise lie in breeding technology, feed conversion, and animal genetics. Owen is also a core member of a new Hendrix Genetics team focused on creating and running an internal training course titled 'Genetics for non-geneticists'.
With his diverse knowledge of animal genetics, and experience in turkey breeding, Owen will provide a solid foundation of knowledge about genetics and what the role of the turkey breeding program means for birds on your farm.
