Transforming Pedigree Barns with Advanced Weighing Technology

We have recently implemented updated turkey weighing technology in our European pedigree facility. This project combines smart technology with practical farm solutions to make data collection on body weight more accurate, efficient, and employee friendly.

Thanks to collaboration with the Hendrix Genetics Research & Technology Center (RTC), our global multi-species research hub, the selection team has now integrated a new streamlined weighing system integrating a smart scale, tablet, and RFID reader. The result? Precise weight capture without the need to manually lift each bird.

Why It Matters

  • Reduced Physical Strain: The weigh assist reduces the need for laborers to lift heavy birds, making the process easier and more comfortable.
  • Improved Efficiency: This set-up reduces the number of people required to weigh birds, freeing up our laborers for other critical tasks.
  • Better Data Quality: Automated weight capture ensures accuracy and consistency, supporting smarter decision-making.

This initiative is part of our broader €10 million R&D investment focused on upgrades within our facilities, which targets a 40% annual increase in birds placed in pedigree barns. This increase will accelerate genetic progress and deliver tangible value to our customers. By streamlining weighing, farms can handle birds more efficiently while maintaining high standards of care and data integrity.

By investing in smart, practical solutions, we reaffirm our commitment to driving innovation that not only advances genetic progress but also delivers meaningful value and efficiency for our customers worldwide.
